Recently published, Brock and Hasenpusch (2009) gives information on the families and subfamilies of the Diapheromeridae.

Members of the Diapheromeridae are smaller stick insects than the showy Phasmatidae. The insects are generally small to medium in size, slim, and without spines. The family is found throughout South East Asia, Australia, New Guinea, New Zealand, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. There are only two subfamilies, the Necrosciinae and the Pachymorphinae. Of the 830 species worldwide 35 species can be found in Australia (Brock and Hasenpusch 2009).
