Tessaratomidae

Overview

These bugs resemble large Pentatomidae from which they may be distinguished by the position of the spiracles on abdominal segment 2.

All Tessaratomidae are phytophagous (plant feeding) and some are pests of crops. The Bronze Orange Bug, Musgraveia sulciventris , is a pest of citris plantations and can emit a stream of defensive chemicals that is extremely unpleasant.

Distribution

The single Australian subfamily Oncomerinae contains 18 species and 12 genera, many of which contain only a single Australian species.

  • Tessaratomidae (Heteroptera)

  • Lyramorpha rosea
