This genus includes 15 listed species, many of which lack wings and live at ground level.
Although apparently primarily Holarctic, with six species from Europe and four from North America, a further five species are described from South Africa.
Commonly living at the base of sedges and grasses in damp places, and feeding on spores.
Tribe Pygothripini, subtribe Compsothripina.
Apparently closely related to the ant-mimicking species of Compsothrips.
